PLASTIC boats

Boat-review AKA the best of the PLASTIC Cups

The waste collected from Tisza, from the floodplain and the nearby settlements is undergoing a spectacular transformation just under a few weeks, before the eyes of the public nonetheless. During the PLASTIC CUP, boats are built from waste from Tisza, which will win the PLASTIC boat title if they meet the rules applied to them. After the PLASTIC boats are built, they have to go through the test of the water-police: are they fit for the trip, is there an anchor, are everyone wearing a life-jacket?
Well, if everything is in order, the race may begin!

The pirates of Dunaföldvár are real water people, their captain has even crossed the ocean. They arrived from Danube to show what boat-building and team spirit is! In 2015 they also won the Environment Prize of the Cup, which they deserved by collecting an immense amount of bottles.

Amerikalózok

Our friends visiting from America joined us with a big family and surprised us with a new innovation! The barely trickling river (because of swelling power) over Tiszalök, slowed the ships, but the Amerikalózok took advantage of the underwater flow with a sail underwater and moved more quickly than others. The lesson: more brain than rowing!

PETKÁNYOK

The party-boat of the 2013 PLASTIC Cup. With rock musicians and depraved elements on board, the atmosphere was always held the top. It did not belong to the fastest response units but it was indestructible. Crushed.

The PETKÁNY (plastic rattus) is a special species belonging to the mammals’ class (mammals). Endangered. Their main feature is to quickly recognize potential opportunities in a variety of situations quickly realize the difficulties and benefits in unexpected situations. Intelligent. Their will is strong. Occurrence: parts of floodplain forest covered with garbage, more specifically plastic bottles. The Ukrainian-labeled mineral water bottles are their favorite food, of which they can store several hundred. In July, a mass migration can be observed traveling on plastic bottles on the upper section of river Tisza. WHY HAVE WE STARTED? We saw an ad in "5-star pile of garbage, full befenit, 10 nights, optional programs!!! Last minute!" "Rock hard. Strong. Petkányok. "

TISZA 1-2-3!

Once upon a time there was a Tisza 1., a dream came true to “Pici bácsi”, Hungary’s first PLASTIC boat, which cut the Upper-Tisza lengthways twice in order for its successors, Tisza 2. and 3., to then thoroughly sermonize the riff-raff gang of the PLASTIC Cup and to show how to pick up the trash. There are only a few ships on which you can grill ... Well, you usually can on the deck of TISZA.

"The first PLASTIC sailor of all time, “Pici bácsi”, and also the greatest scavenger hunt-crew of the first PLASTIC Cup."

The location of the building of the PET boats. The 2014 winner of the Cup, the “Tisz(t)a PET” was also made here. The boat has since been seen on the Budapest BOAT SHOW, the Explorers Day and Nature Film Festival of Gödöllő by the visitors. The city openly enters the competition with a new boat in order to win the cup again and they will use certain parts of the previous vessel for the building of the new one.

ZSURK

The young people of the innovative town, who have already actively participated in the organization, now take part in picking up the litter with a small boat. Zsurk has already devoted special attention to the use of waste selective waste collection way before the PLASTIC Cup, so their participation in the Cup goes well with the green image of the town.

CIGÁND

The entry of their “MeglePETés” boat is a clear challenge to other boats in the PLASTIC Fleet, because there is a vibrant sporting life going on in Cigánd, and the competitive spirit is very strong. The city will greet the boats of the PLASTIC Cup for the third time this year. Their motto, "value momentum" have prompted city leaders to proclaim: Cigánd will not only just enter the 3rd PLASTIC Cup, they’ll go straight for the Cup itself!

PLASTIC boats around the world!

Bottle Rocket

Bottle Rocket (Mississippi – 3218 KMs)

On 20 August 2003, my boat called ‘Bottle-rocket’ was "launched". From Lake Itasca in Minnesota I have traveled 3218 km to the Persian Gulf in Mexico. With this, I fulfilled a promise what I pledged in a foxhole near Kuwait during the Gulf War, while I was covered with mud and oil. "If we survive this war, I'm building a raft like Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer." 12 years later, I fulfilled my promise and I ran down the Mississippi River in five months on a raft made of 232 pieces of 2-liter bottles. Fluke (Pacific Ocean – south coast – 403 KMs)

In early 2005 came the idea to cross the Pacific on a raft made of plastic bottles. With the help of students of Environmental Charter Middle School in Lawndale, California, we collected 800 pieces of 2-liter bottles to create two pontoons. The boat was launched in Santa Barbara and made a 403 km-long journey on the coast to San Diego. During the trip I decided to organize a plastic bottle expedition to slice through the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii.

Cola Kayak (LOS ANGELES RIVER – 81 KMs)

Students of Environmental Charter Middle School have built a series boat. We have built a 2.5-meter-long torpedo shaped canoe using 170 pieces of 2-liter bottles. Using aluminum crutches as oars, I paddled with the Cola Kayak from the San Fernando Valley to the Port of Los Angeles. Video

Barbie Chopper (BALLONA CREEK CHANNEL– 160KMs)

The Barbie Chopper is a makeshift plastic boat made out of 2 bicycles and Barbie-head, which teeters on 4 milk boxes of plastic bottles. It is top-heavy for longer trips, but to people's amusement, students of ECHS launched it on the Ballona Creek channel in the midst of continuous rolling.

WANDERER OF CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER (CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER, GEORGIA – 13 KMs)

The Chattahoochee River conservation organization invited me to build a boat and to compete with it on the occasion of Earth Day in 2007. We were prepared stable catamaran out of 170 pieces of 2-liter bottles. The first 20 minutes I was in first place in the race - thanks to my 20-minute-advantage - and 2 hours later, I finished last.

Plastic Poison (ALASKA CHANNEL, JUNEAU, ALASKA, - 8 KMS)

2 groups, namely Turning the Tide and Sons of Norway, collected 5000 water bottles, 2 pallets, 50 polyester shirts and 3 pairs of crutches to build the biggest plastic vessel yet. The Sons of Norway-group insisted on a Viking-ship, so the front of the ship was shaped as a dragon head of the plastic bottles. Although it did not live long on water, it was carried around Alaska-wide to discuss the problem of disposable plastics.
